Iowa Statute To Facilitate Educational Stability/School Reentry
Iowa's statute provides a number of protections to ensure the educational continuity of youth adjudicated delinquent or in foster care who are enrolling in a new school district. School districts must develop procedures for awarding acadeimc credit for coursework done at another school, provide intensive insturtctional services and supports if appropriate, promote practices that facilitate access to extra-curricular activities and credit, and establish other procedures to lesson the impact of the school transfer on the student. The statute also requires development of an MOU for information exchange with the department of human services, and requires the sending school district to transfer educational records within five school days of receiving notice that the child is changing schools.
