Temporary Leave Policy
It is the policy of the Indiana Department of Correction’s Division of Youth Services to encourage temporary leave from their facilities as students begin transitioning back to the community. All students committed to the Division of Youth Services are administered an academic achievement assessment within fourteen days of admission. Youth may be granted leave, among other reasons, to attend or make arrangements to attend an academic or vocational training institution or program, including a public school; to make arrangements for medical, psychiatric or psychological services including treatment for drug addiction or alcoholism; and to arrange employment upon release or to attend a job interview.
So that students can begin school at the start of the semester, temporary leave to attend an outside school is further encouraged for students who are nearing expected release.
